Indiana University Cyclotron Facility Cooler Storage Ring records, 1980-2006

The "Indiana Cooler" storage ring at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF) was a storage ring for light ions, consisting of a circular magnet lattice of about 100 meters in circumference. The storage ring was built to facilitate the novel technology of electron cooling, which made possible the use of an internal target and enabled unprecedented experiments in nuclear research. The collection includes research notes, log books, administrative documents, correspondence, research proposals, photographs, and illustrations related to the operations of the Cooler storage ring and the nuclear research output that was produced with the use of the Cooler.

This series of conferences was held annually at Indiana University from 1950 through 1956. They were organized by a committee under the general direction of the university president's office in cooperation with the U.S. Dept. of State and with funding from the Lilly Endowment. Carole Yvonne Johnson (1940- ) is a dancer, choreographer, and activist known for her focus on Black contemporary and Aboriginal dance. This collection contains her personal papers including records on her dance companies and tours throughout Australia and the United States.

Joseph A. Franklin papers, 1920-1977, bulk 1950-1975

Joseph A. Franklin began as a student at Indiana University in 1922. Following his 1927 graduation with a degree in finance, Franklin remained an employee of the University's fiscal offices for the entirety of his professional career during which he was appointed University treasurer (1946-1971), vice president (1948-1971), and Fiscal Counsel to the President (1971-1975). Franklin was active in various professional, community, and service organizations including Acacia Fraternity, Church of Christ, Lions Club, Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Riley Memorial Association, and the United Fund. This collection primarily holds papers relating to Franklin's service activities and includes correspondence, invitations, financial records, publications, and minutes.

Student government at Indiana University was officially formed in April 1948 due in large part to the influence of IU President Herman B Wells. Following a series of name changes, student government in 1973 became known as the Indiana University Student Association (IUSA). In 2019 they changed their name again to Indiana University Student Government (IUSG). This collection consists of the records of the IUSA including: Meeting minutes and agendas; resolutions; administrative files; records of the IUSA President , Vice-President for Senate/ Congress, Vice- President for Administration, Treasurer and the Supreme Court; association, committee and department files; and issue, project and subject files. These records primarily cover the period from 1973-2010.

Lindley Family collection, 1892-1944

The Lindley Family collection is comprised of the papers of Ernest H. Lindley, Elizabeth Kidder Lindley, and Ernest K. Lindley. Ernest H. Lindley was a graduate of Indiana University, a professor of Philosophy at IU, the President of the University of Idaho, and the Chancellor of the University of Kansas. His wife Elizabeth Kidder Lindley was an 1893 graduate of Indiana University. Their son Ernest K. Lindley was a noted political writer and commentator. This collection consists of correspondence received by family members, the writings of Ernest H. Lindley, newspaper clippings, and personal materials.

The Polish Studies Center was established at Indiana University on October 30, 1977. The purpose of the Center was to promote activities such as lectures, discussions, academic courses, and an exchange program with Warsaw University that would increase the knowledge and cultural awareness of Poland and Eastern Europe, while bringing the areas closer together. The collection consists of a wide-variety of information pertaining to the various programs, events, lectures, and conferences formed by the Polish Studies Center, along with administrative materials that show the growth and development of the center.

James B. Christoph papers, 1959-1998

James B. Christoph served as professor of political science and West European studies from 1967 until retiring with emeritus status in 1990. His main area of interest was British politics; much of his research, publications, and other professional activities were focused on this topic. Included in this collection is correspondence, teaching materials, faculty annual reports, and other items pertaining to his professional interests and activities, such as conference presentations.

Folklore and Ethnomusicology Publications, Inc. was created in 1988 as the umbrella organization for four Indiana University Folklore Institute student publications groups. It encompasses Folklore Forum Society, Folklore Publications Group, Trickster Press, and Ethnomusicology Publications Group. This collection contains mostly articles submitted for publication in the various Folklore and Ethnomusicology publications as well as the journals produced by the different titles.

The Office of Affirmative Action was created to "provide leadership for the university's commitment and efforts to promote institutional equity and a diverse university community" and to provide "counseling, advice, and information to university administrators, deans, department heads, faculty, staff, and students in their efforts to create a diverse and inclusive learning and work environment free of discrimination and harassment." The collection consists of reports and reviews written by the Office, complaint files, and subject files.
