Collections

The Yanez mss. collection consists of historical documents pertaining to Colonial Ecuador.

Consists of a collection formed by Professor Breon Mitchell of first and early editions of bi–lingual dictionaries of languages throughout the world, including the languages of Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific Rim.

The Spain History mss. II, 1493-1870, consist of legal forms, personal wills, governmental papers, and real estate documents relating to 15th-18th century Spain.

The Spain History mss., 1468-1887, consist of correspondence, histories, governmental papers, and literature relating to Spain.

The Scottish mss., 1500-1707, consists of materials concerned with the genealogies, history, letters, and writings of Scotland.

The Ricketts mss., 9th-19th cent., are illuminated medieval and renaissance manuscripts assembled by Coella Lindsay Ricketts, 1859-1941, calligrapher, of Chicago, Illinois. Most of the material relates to religious matters.

The Poole mss. are a collection of 137 ancient, medieval and renaissance manuscripts and single leaves ranging from the 3rd to the 16th century. The collection was formed by George Amos Poole, 1907- , printer, of Chicago, whose interest was in the development of scripts which have had a direct influence on the design of Western printing types, rather than in illumination and decoration. Most of this material relates to religious matters.

The Pliny mss., 9th cent.-1938, are photostats of Pliny manuscripts assembled by Selatie Edgar Stout, 1871-1969, professor of Latin and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University.

The Philippine mss. II, 1594-1908, consists of accounts of the lives and deaths of various saints and other religious figures, copies of royal decrees, correspondence, government and military reports, historical accounts, maps, wills and inventories of estates, and a water-color painting.

The Parker mss., 1264-1871, consist of commonplace books, legal records, account books, volumes on heraldry, rhetoric and logic, genealogy, sermons, political tracts, a diary, gazetteer and a jest book in verse.

The Near Eastern mss., 700-1915, consist of a collection of individually acquired manuscripts pertaining to the region formerly known as the Near East, now referred to as the Middle East.

The Mutis Daza mss., 1568-1936, except for a small portion, were assembled by Eduardo Posada, 1862- , historian and bibliographer, for Camilo Mutis Daza. Included are a number of outstanding items on Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela during the wars of independence.

The Miscellaneous mss., 2100 BCE-1970, consist of individual items acquired individually either as a gift or purchased from a variety of sources.

The Medieval and Renaissance mss., 700-1600, consists of individual items acquired from time to time either as a gift or purchased from a variety of sources.

The Lindenbaum, Peter mss., ca. 1590-2008, consist of the papers of Dr. Peter Lindenbaum (1938-2010), a former English Professor at Indiana University.

Materials collected from the composition studio of Leonard Bernstein, a conductor, composer, and musician active during the mid-20th century. The collection includes recordings, books, scores, awards, artwork, clothing, furniture, and other artifacts pertaining to his professional and personal life.

The Latin American mss. --Venezuela, 1581-1880, consists of individual items acquired separately either as a gift, purchase, transfer, or removal from a variety of sources, relating to Venezuela. Additions continue to be made.

The Latin American mss. Peru, 1535-1929, consist of over 6500 documents which trace the historical, economic and social development of what is presently known as Peru, with lesser coverage of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador.

The Latin American mss. --Panama, 1578-1905, consists of individual items acquired separately either as a gift, purchase, transfer, or removal from a variety of sources, relating to Panama. Additions continue to be made.

The Latin American mss.--Miscellaneous 1536-1957 consists of miscellaneous documents from various Latin American countries, compiled from the other Latin American mss., including correspondence, goverment documents, literature, photographs, and other documents.

The Latin American mss. Mexico III, 1563-1855, consist of historical documents relating mainly to Mexico's colonial period.

The Latin American mss. Mexico, 1502-1925, is an extensive collection covering much of Mexican history in depth.

The Latin American mss. Guatemala music manuscripts, late 16th-early 17th centuries (ca. 1570-1635), consists of 13 bound volumes and two fragments.

The Latin American mss. --Colombia, 1558-1890, consists of individual items acquired separately either as a gift, purchase, transfer, or removal from a variety of sources, relating to Colombia. Additions continue to be made.

The Lafayette mss., 1572-1939, consist of correspondence and papers assembled by banker Walter P. Gardner around the central figure of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette, 1757-1834, general.

The collection consists of a group of 28 hornbooks. Also included are two auction catalogs for sales where some of the hornbooks were sold and a description of a hornbook in brass from dealer Patrick King's list no. 11, 1986.

The History of the Written Word: Pages from the Past, 2400 BCE-1920 CE, consist of a collection of original leaves from rare books and manuscripts in limited portfolio sets.

A collection of pamphlets, booklets, and offprints compiled by French folklorist Henri Gaidoz (1842-1932) pertaining to folklore (particularly French folklore), mythology, Celtic Studies, and comparative religion.

The Gottfried mss. consists of Latin manuscripts and a working translation of Giovanni Della Casa's Rime by Rudolf B. Gottfried, 1909-1986, professor emeritus of English, Indiana University.

The German mss., ca. 16th century-2004, consist of individually acquired letters, documents, and historical and literary manuscripts written in German, relating to the history, culture, and life of Germany.

The German legal documents are those legal documents in the German language which have been acquired as individual pieces.

​The Fernández Nodal mss., 16th cent.-1883, consists of the papers of José Fernández Nodal, a Peruvian scholar born in 1822.

English Legal Documents mss. IV, 1200-1898, consist of those manuscripts concerned with English legal matters which have been acquired as individual pieces.

The English legal documents, 1510-1858, consist of mortgages, deeds, indentures, wills, leases, marriage settlements and contracts and powers of attorney.

The Ege mss. III, 12th-18th centuries, consists of Otto Ege's Original Oriental Manuscripts porfolio of leaves of non-European origin.

The Charlton mss., 1498-1588, consists of copies of Aristotelis de poetica interprete Giorgio Valla Placentino; Federicus Cerutus, De re poetica; and Alemannus on Aristotle's Poetic.

The Calverley mss., 1359-18/19th cent., consist of Arabic manuscripts collected by Edwin Elliott Calverley, 1882-1971, professor of Arabic and Islamic studies, whose notes about the documents are occasionally found inscribed thereon.

The Boxer mss. II, 1500-1938, consists of manuscripts and documents collected by colonial historian Charles Ralph Boxer, 1904-2000.

The Binkley, Raglind mss., ca. 1450-1842, consist of medieval fragments collected by Thomas and Raglind Binkley.
