The Applegate mss., 1863-1929, consists mainly of correspondence between John S. Applegate, 1823-1867, and his wife Elizabeth S. (Lynch) Applegate, 1823-1890, during the Civil War, and letters from Elizabeth S. Applegate to their daughter Alma Etta (Applegate) White, 1855-1930.

The Banta mss., 1836-1888, consists of the papers of James P. Banta, 1814-1873, Civil War soldier of Salem, Indiana, and his wife, Jane P. Lewelling, 1812-.

The Bement mss., 1843-1891, consists of the correspondence of Isaac Bush, 1815-1864, farmer of LaPorte County, Indiana, and his wife, Sarah Ann (Bement) Bush, 1821-1891.

The Blair mss., 1843-1881, consists of letters and papers of Montgomery Blair, 1813-1883, lawyer and postmaster general in the cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1865.

The Clark, W.A. mss., 1862-1918, consists primarily of letters from Hoosier soldier William Allen Clark, 1844- , to his parents in Rossville, Indiana, during his service in Company K of the 72nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

The Crull mss., 1835-1904, consists of letters and documents relating to the Crull family of Hamilton County, Indiana.

The Cumback mss., 1835-1904, consists of the correspondence of Indiana congressman Will Cumback, 1829-1905.

The Day, S. mss., 1857-1895, consists primarily of a diary and related papers of Civil War soldier Samuel Day.

The Flanagan mss., 1861-1962, are the papers of Emma Cecelia (Rector) Flanagan, (Mrs. Edward E. Flanagan), 1870- 1964. They consist primarily of correspondence with the Dreiser and Rose families dealing with personal matters.

The Forwalter mss., 1642-1939, are historical documents collected by Dorothy J. Forwalter.
