The Housman mss., 1861-1961, consist of correspondence and writings of Alfred Edward Housman, 1859-1936, poet, and correspondence about Housman.

The Housman mss. III, 1885-1970, consist of correspondence of John Waynflete Carter, 1905-1975, bibliographer, about Alfred Edward Housman, 1859-1936, poet, copies of Housman correspondence and writings, photographs of Housman and relatives, and manuscripts of articles and memoirs about Housman, including one by Edith Sitwell. Also present is a copy of the first proof of A.E. Housman's Collected Poems, (London, Jonathan Cape, 1939) annotated and corrected by John W. Carter.

The Hovey mss., 1841-1927, consist of letters and papers of Alvin Peterson Hovey, 1821-1891, governor of Indiana, and correspondence of his daughter, Mrs. Esther (Hovey) Menzies, and Mrs. Deidre Dorothy (Duff) Johnson.

The Howard mss., 1861-1902, consists of Civil War letters of William Allen Howard, 1821-1881, cabinetmaker, to his wife, Mrs. Louisa Eliza (Roden) Howard, 1833-1893, of Fulton County, Kentucky.

The Howard Ship Yards & Dock Company mss., 1834-1942, are papers of the company of that name of Jeffersonville, Indiana, builders of steamboats, barges, towboats, etc. The papers in the collection consist of account books and other financial records, letters received, letter-copybooks, blueprints, drawings, and some photographs.

The Howe mss., 1820-1915, consists chiefly of deeds belonging to the family of Joshua Owen Howe, 1784-1870, merchant of Bloomington in Monroe County, Indiana, and frequently concerned with sale of lots in the town.

The Hughes mss., 1833-1888, are legal papers of the law firm of Hughes, Denver and Peck, Washington, D.C., largely consisting of Confederate and Native American claims before the U.S. Court of Claims.

The Hughes, R. mss., 1777-1981, consist of the correspondence and writings of British novelist, playwright, and poet Richard Arthur Warren Hughes, 1900-1976.

The Hunter mss., 1862-1893, consists of the Civil War documents of Morton Craig Hunter, 1825-1896, brevet brigadier general and congressman from Indiana.

The Hutchinson mss., 1891-1900, consists of those cards and letters written to Thomas Hutchinson, 1856-1938, book collector, from various authors and removed from volumes formerly owned by Hutchinson.

The Illingworth mss., 1816-1880, consists of the papers of businessman Richard Stonhewer Illingworth, 1797-1884. The papers deal with personnel matters, finances, the returns on cocoa, cotton, sugar, and tobacco, and the mining of coal, copper, emeralds, gold, lead, salt, and silver.

The India mss., 1757-1947, consist of letters, writings, business, and other documents relating to India, accumlated from various sources by Glenn Horowitz.

The Indiana Cotton Mills mss., 1850-1947, consists of the papers of the Indiana Cotton Mills, Inc., Cannelton, Indiana. These mills were chartered by the Indiana State Legislature in 1848 under the name Cannelton Cotton Mill. Among the incorporators were such prominent men as Salmon Portland Chase, Charles Tillinghast James, Elisha Mills Huntington, and Hamilton Smith.

The Indiana History mss., 1725-1973, consists of individual items related to the history of the state of Indiana, acquired separately either as a gift, purchase, transfer, or removal from a variety of sources.

The Indianapolis Switch and Frog Company mss., 1892-1940, consists of the correspondence and records of that company.

The Indiana Sesquicentennial mss., 1786-1967, consists of photocopies or microfilm copies of manuscripts collected throughout Indiana relating to the state's 150 years of historical development.

The Indy mss., 1892-1919, consists of the letters of Paul Marie Théodore Vincent d'Indy, 1851-1931, French composer, theorist, and author.

The Irwin mss., 1833-1940, consists of the letters and papers of members of the Irwin and Miller families of Columbus, Indiana, including Joseph Ireland Irwin, 1824-1910, businessman; his son, William Glanton Irwin, 1866-1943, businessman; John Chapman Miller, 1831-1901, minister of the Disciples of Christ; and his son, Hugh Thomas Miller, 1867-1947, teacher, businessman, and lieutenant governor of Indiana.

The Jackson, Henry mss., 1862-1919, consists of letters to and from Henry Jackson, 1839-1921, Regius professor of Greek at Cambridge University.

The Jameson, M. mss., 1875-1931, consists primarily of letters to author Booth Tarkington, 1869-1946, or to his sister, Mary "Haute" Booth (Tarkington) Jameson, 1881-1937, writer, suffragist, and clubwoman.

Includes materials by Riley, materials about Riley, scrapbooks, photographs, and memorabilia.

The Janes mss., 1865-1900, consist of letters to Lewis George Janes, 1844-1901, from William Lloyd Garrison, 1805-1879; William Lloyd Garrison, Jr., 1838-1909; William James, 1842-1910; and Herbert Spencer, 1820-1903.

The Jansen, Peter K. mss., 1836–2005, consists primarily of manuscripts, drafts, correspondence and other material relating to translations into English from the German made by Peter K. Jansen (1934–2007) over the course of his career.

The Jay mss., 1864-2005, consist of approximately 325 spirit photographs and related correspondence and printed materials collected by magician Ricky Jay, 1946-2018.

The Jenkins mss., 1810-1902, consist of the journals and letter books of Francis Jenkins (1793-1866), Commissioner and later Agent for the East India Company in Assam, India, who was instrumental in the development of Assam's tea industry.

The Jennett mss., 1886-1979, consists of miscellaneous letters and manuscripts collected by rare book curator Matthew Jennett.

The Jennings Lumber Co. mss., 1867-1915, consists of the accounts, records, and correspondence of the Jennings family of New Castle, Indiana, with particular reference to their several business and manufacturing firms.

The Jerauld mss., 1834-1898, consists of the business records of merchant George Nelson Jerauld, 1811-1894.

The Johnson N. mss., 1868-1892, consists of a transcription made by historian Nancy Edith Johnson, 1941- , of the nine-volume diary of statesman Gathorne Gathorne-Hardy, 1st Earl of Cranbrook, 1814-1906.

The Johnson, W. S. mss., 1846-1894, consists of letters to printer William Spencer Johnson, 1813-1897, from actors, actresses, artists, musicians, editors, authors, journalists, and statesmen. Included are also some photographs of actors and actresses.

The Jonathan Krause Rare Newspaper and Magazine Collection consists of approximately 900 original issues of historical newspapers and magazines, with a focus on late 18th- and early 19th-century American publications.

The Jones, J. mss., 1868-1887, consists of the letters of John E. Jones, of Volcano, California, to his sister, Mary Jones, 1837-1903, of Newborough, England.

The Judah mss., 1787-1927, consists of the papers of Samuel Judah, 1799-1869, lawyer of Vincennes, Indiana, and members of his family, particularly of his son, Samuel Brandon Judah, 1845-1928, stock raiser of Vincennes, Indiana.

The Juniper Von Phitzer Press mss., 1719-2012, consists of correspondence, business papers, ephemera, printed materials, reprints of original materials, photographs, albums, and plaques related to the activities of the miniature book publisher Juniper Von Phitzer Press.

The Kafader mss., 1855-1916, consists of the papers of Engelbert Kafader, 1836-1917.

The Keene mss., 1880-1890, consists of letters from Charles Samuel Keene, 1823-1891, a humorous artist for Punch from 1851-1890, who also made drawings for other periodicals including the Illustrated London News and Once a Week and for various books.

The Keesling, Arthur L. mss., 1834-1969, consists of material relating to the Keesling and Patton families of Anderson, Indiana, particularly Arthur L. Keesling, 1899-1973, and Elizabeth Emily Patton, 1866-1954.

The Kerlin mss., 1798-1925, consists of the papers of Mrs. Harriet Barton (Kerlin) Bentley, (Mrs. Frederick James Bentley), and members of three generations of her family.

The Lafayette mss., 1572-1939, consist of correspondence and papers assembled by banker Walter P. Gardner around the central figure of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette, 1757-1834, general.

The Lafayette mss. II, 1774-1957, are individual letters and documents relating to the Marquis de Lafayette, Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, 1757-1834, general, which have been acquired from several sources.

III, 1759-1880, consist of a bound volume of holograph correspondence and documents assembled around the central figure of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette, 1757-1834, general, his contemporaries, among whom were Pierre François Audry de Puyraveau and Jacques Charles Dupont de l'Eure, and members of his family.
