The Rumely mss., 1838-1965, are the papers of Edward Aloysius Rumely, 1882-1964, physician, educator, and public relations man, and papers relating to his ancestors. The papers consist of correspondence with prominent people both in Europe and the United States; an autobiography; documents dealing with his arrest for perjury in July, 1918, and the pardon by President Calvin Coolidge on January 19, 1925; material on his many fields of interest; pictures, and printed matter.

The Rumely, F.S. mss. II, 1841-1955, are largely the personal and business papers of Fanny (Scott) Rumely, 1877- 1979, of LaPorte, Indiana.

The Rumely, F.S. mss., 1883-1973, are the papers of Fanny (Scott) Rumely, 1877-1979, of LaPorte, Indiana. The papers consist of extensive correspondence with family and friends, diaries, writings, collected printed materials, professional files, and photographs.

Rudy Pozzatti was on the faculty at Indiana University from 1956-1991 and upon his retirement, received the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus. In 1979, he helped found the Echo Press, a printmaking workship in Bloomington. Prof. Pozzatti was recognized as one of the prominent printmakers in the country and has works exhibited throughout the world. This collection consists of Prof. Pozzatti's biographical information, show and exhibition materials, as well as personal correspondence spanning over 50 years. Also included are photographs of his works, plates and woodblocks as well as some original posters. There are no files related to his teaching.

The Rudd mss., 1879-1907, consist of letters to Smith Rudd of Bronson, Michigan, from John Augustus Sutter, 1803-1880, pioneer and adventurer, and from descendants of David Crockett, 1786-1836, frontiersman and congressman.

The Rubin, Jay mss., 1984-2006, consist of the corespondence, papers, manuscripts, and typescripts related to literary translations from the Japanese by translator Jay Rubin.

Roy W. Howard Papers consist of business records from Scripps-Howard, published articles, video recordings, audio recordings, personal papers, scrapbooks, and photographs.

Roy Sieber was a historian of African art who taught at Indiana University Bloomington from 1962 through 1983. Having been the first person to receive a degree in African art in the United States, Sieber was the creator of the study of African art history in the United States. This collection contains prints of his black and white photographs of African art in use and on display, slides of African art in museums, and annotated bibliographies written by his students exploring specific aspects of art in Africa.

The Roughead mss., 1910-1912, are the letters of Andrew Lang, 1844-1912, the author of fairy tales and other works, including historical mysteries, to criminologist William Roughead, 1870-1952, who lived at 8 Oxford Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Rothenstein mss., 1893-1937, are drawings of prominent Englishmen by Sir William Rothenstein, 1872-1945, artist.

The Ross mss., 1910-1966, consist of correspondence of Robert Baldwin Ross, 1869-1918, art critic, and Siegfried Lorraine Sassoon, 1886-1967, poet.

The Rossetti mss., 1817-1893, consist of the correspondence of poet Christina Georgina Rossetti, 1830- 1894, and her two brothers: painter, poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 1828-1882, and author, critic William Michael Rossetti, 1829-1919.

The Rosenberg, Samuel N. mss., 2007-2009, consist of translations and publication materials by Samuel N. Rosenberg, professor of French and Italian.

The Rosenberg mss., ca. 1938-1982, consist of letters from film critic and reviewer Pauline Kael, 1919-2001, to longtime friend Violet Rosenberg.

The Rosenberg, Betsy mss., ca.1979-2013, consist of the papers, writings, and correspondence of poet and translator Betsy Rosenberg.

The Rose mss., 1866-1878, are letters written by George Rose, 1817-1882, author. Some of the letters are signed with his pseudonym of Arthur Sketchley.

Rosa Smith Eigenmann was an internationally known ichthyologist and attended Indiana University from 1880-1882. The Rosa Smith Eigenmann papers include some of her correspondence, research, and family ephemera.

The Root mss., 1815-1888, are papers of Riley Root, 1795-1870, teacher, surveyor, inventor, and author of Journal of Travels from St. Josephs to Oregon with Observations of that Country, together with Some Description of California, its Agricultural Interests, and a Full Description of its Gold Mines. Ronald Richard Smith was a member of the Folklore faculty at Indiana University from 1978-1997. His research centered around traditional music, festivals, movement and dance, and religion within the African Diaspora, with a focus on Caribbean peoples. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at IU, Smith also served as associate dean of the Office of Research and University Graduate School from 1988-1996, headed the IU Ethnomusicology Program, and spent one year as director of the Archives of Traditional Music. This collection consists of Smith's papers and lectures, dissertations of some of his students, correspondence, committee files, and some classroom materials. Prominent in the papers are Smith's files on the Folklore Institute and department, such as teaching files, meeting minutes, and curriculum reviews.

The Ronald Lewis collection contains press releases, article clippings, concert flyers, posters, advertisements, sound recordings and video documenting Lewis' career as a musician, record label owner, and producer in Louisville, KY.

The Roloff mss., ca. 1967–1999, consist of letters between Michael Roloff, 1937- , and various correspondents.

The Rollings mss., 1917-1918, consist of correspondence and photographs of Harlan S. Rollings and Daniel N. Rollings.

In this project, four former professionals in the roller skating business recount their experiences as well as their hopes for the future of roller skating. All four men discuss the relationship beteen skating and music. In particular, these men seem to be nostalgic for organ music and the disco era. They also discuss different inventions that revolutionized the skating business, such as floor waxes and in line skates.

The Rogers mss., 1851-1878, consist of manuscripts of Joseph Goodwin Rogers, 1841-1908, Indiana physician.

The Rogers, H.M. mss., 1895-1930, consist of letters from Booth Tarkington, 1869-1946, author, to Herbert Milton Rogers, 1870?-1931, lawyer, of Omaha, Nebraska, and former classmate of Tarkington at Princeton University.

The Rogers, G.L. mss., 1819-1841, consist of letters written by Reverend George Lawson Rogers, and by his daughter Nancy F. Rogers.

The Rogers, G.B. mss., ca. 1884-1921, consist primarily of letters between Elizabeth (Slater) Rogers, 1865-1918, and her future husband, George Benjamin Rogers, 1868-1936.

The Rogers, A.J. mss., 1926-1968, consist primarily of original drawings, sketches, blueprints, photographs, and specifications for houses designed by Brown County, Indiana, architect Alvah Judson Rogers, 1894-1977.

This collection contains over 300 indexed folktales from the Micronesian Islands that were documented by Roger Mitchell and others from 1963-1971. Mitchell was an anthropologist and folklorist and utilized the tales he collected for his many publications related to Micronesian folklore.

Roger Wilkinson was an Indiana University professor of physics from 1946-1968. Collection consists of correspondence, publications, lecture notes, and laboratory reports. The lecture notes included in the collection are from both Wilkinson's tenure as a professor as well as notes he took as a student at the University of Chicago. The Publication series consists of reprints of articles authored or co-authored by Wilkinson, 1951-1968.

Roger G. Newton was a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Physics at Indiana University. His primary research interests include field theory, scattering theories, nuclear and high energy physics, elementary particles, quantum mechanics, and mathematical physics. The collection consists of Newton's papers created and collected during his tenure at IU, including correspondence, files on committees and conferences, review board records and materials relating to his books. No teaching files are included in this collection.

The Robinson mss., 1930-1960, consist of materials relating to the firm of W.H. Robinson and to the careers of the Robinson brothers, Lionel (1897-1983) and Philip (1902-1991).

Robert Campbell was a professor of economics at Indiana University from 1961 until his retirement in 1993, during which he held the positions of chairperson for the Department of Economics and Director of the Russian and East European Institute. He was a scholar of centrally planned economies, especially of the former Soviet Union. The collection consists of materials used for his publication A Biobibliographical Dictionary of Russian and Soviet Economists, records related to his consultations and conferences, documents related to his distinguished professor nomination, and correspondence.

Robert V. Ruhe was director of the Water Resources Research Center and professor of geology at Indiana University from 1970 until his retirement in 1985. His research focused on geomorphology and hydrology. He was a recognized world-authority on soils and landscape evolution. Collection consists of correspondence, teaching and committee files, publications, and subject files.

The Robertson mss., 1919-1925, consist of the correspondence with John Wooster Robertson, 1856- , physician, and author of Edgar A. Poe; a study, privately printed in 1921, and the revised edition, Edgar A. Poe; a psychopathic study, New York, London, G.P. Putnam's sons, 1922.

The Roberts mss., 1885-1918, consist of correspondence and papers of and relating to the family of Andrew Jackson Roberts, 1827-1891, farmer.

Bob Marovich is a gospel music historian, author, and radio host. This collection consists of one series made up of recordings and transcripts of interviews that Marovich conducted with a variety of gospel music pioneers while writing A City Called Heaven: Chicago and the Birth of Gospel Music. The interviews discuss the musicians' lives and careers, as well as spirituality and the gospel genre as a whole.

Papers and related material documenting the career of actor, director, musician, and educator Robert Kya-Hill and the 1969 film Slaves.

Robert Heinich was a professor in the School of Education at Indiana University from 1969 to 1990. During his time at IU, he served as the chair of the Instructional Systems Technology Program. Heinich also served for several years as editor of the Journal of Educational Computing Research. This collection largely contains copies of scholarly articles written by Heinich. Also included in the collection are interviews, biographical information, and Heinich's dissertation.

Robert H. Shaffer was affiliated with Indiana University for nearly 40 years. He served as Dean of Students from 1955 to 1969 before returning to faculty work full-time. This collection encompasses Robert and Marge Shaffer's personal collection of scrapbooks, with many of them containing newspaper clippings from his time as Dean and photographs from his travels across the world.

Robert Gray Gunderson was an Indiana University professor of speech communication and history, and a former director of IU's American Studies Program. He began working at IU in 1958 and remained until his retirement in 1985. The collection consists of Gunderson's teaching materials, committee files, Speech Department records, correspondence, publications and newsletters, and student papers.

Robert Goodman (born 1953) is a writer, director, producer, and educator from Pennsylvania. He has produced documentaries, commercials, marketing videos, and other non-theatrical film and video works since 1977. Goodman has served as CEO of Goodman Associates, Inc. since its inception in 1986. This collection contains administrative records, professional activity documentation, and production files from Goodman's career.

Robert F. Byrnes was a Professor of History at Indiana University from 1956 to 1988 and served as director of the Russian and East European Institute at IU from 1959-1962 and 1971-1975. Byrnes specialized in the study of Russian conservative thought, Russian historical writing, anti-Semitism in France and Europe, the Soviet role in world affairs after World War II, American policy toward Eastern Europe, and Soviet American relations. In addition Byrnes made significant contributions to the development of Slavic studies programs in the United States and the opening of academic exchanges with the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The collection consists of the personal papers of Dr. Byrnes with an emphasis on his work with Radio Free Europe and the Inter-University Committee on Travel Grants as well as his other professional activities and includes research files, correspondence, reports, minutes, manuscripts, reviews, teaching files, films, sound recordings, and photographs.

Robert F. Borkenstein worked in various capacities with the Indiana State Police in collaboration with Indiana University before retiring in 1958 and coming to IU full time, serving as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Police Administration until his retirement in 1987. He played a major role in developing the department, which was renamed the Department of Forensic Studies in 1970 and again renamed the Department of Criminal Justice in 1985. Borkenstein was a prolific figure in the fields of forensic science and traffic safety; he is well known for inventing the Breathalyzer in 1954 and for research efforts into blood alcohol concentration through the Grand Rapids Study in the 1960s. This collection consists of biographical documents, research and professional materials, instruments, and subject files. Included are files and instruments related to Borkenstein's research and development of several of his breath test inventions, including the Breathalyzer.

This collection contains material created and collected by Robert Elisha Burke. Burke became a professor at Indiana University shortly after his graduation from the Pratt Institute in New York. He completed work for his A.B. and M.A. while teaching. In 1921 he became the head of the Fine Arts Department and held that position until 1941. Included are lecture notes, travel notes, some personal information, three bound volumes consisting of lectures, paintings, and other representations of his work, and an album containing photos and postcards of his U.S. travels. The majority of the materials relate to his teaching career at I.U.

The bulk of the collection consists of records related to legislative work during Garton's tenure in the Indiana Senate and his years as President Pro Tempore (1976-2006), with substantial files from political campaigns, clippings and photos, and some post-2006 materials related to his work in the Senate.
