The Riley mss. VI, 1876-1916, consist largely of transcripts of the letters of James Whitcomb Riley, 1849- 1916, poet, of Greenfield and Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Ricketts mss., 9th-19th cent., are illuminated medieval and renaissance manuscripts assembled by Coella Lindsay Ricketts, 1859-1941, calligrapher, of Chicago, Illinois. Most of the material relates to religious matters.

The Latin American mss. Peru, 1535-1929, consist of over 6500 documents which trace the historical, economic and social development of what is presently known as Peru, with lesser coverage of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador.

The Pyke mss., 1890-1901, consist of letters from Mary Moore, Alfred Piatti, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, and Sir Charles Wyndham to Joseph Pyke.

The Quaker mss., 1818-1888, consist of minutes of the Blue River Monthly Meeting, 1818-1860, and minutes of the Blue River Quarterly Meeting, 1833-1885.

The Engel mss., 1862-1941, consists of letters to Harry Engel, 1901-1970, artist and professor dealing primarily with the murals in the Indiana University Auditorium, 1933-1941.

The Indiana Cotton Mills mss., 1850-1947, consists of the papers of the Indiana Cotton Mills, Inc., Cannelton, Indiana. These mills were chartered by the Indiana State Legislature in 1848 under the name Cannelton Cotton Mill. Among the incorporators were such prominent men as Salmon Portland Chase, Charles Tillinghast James, Elisha Mills Huntington, and Hamilton Smith.

The Indianapolis Switch and Frog Company mss., 1892-1940, consists of the correspondence and records of that company.

The Howard Ship Yards & Dock Company mss., 1834-1942, are papers of the company of that name of Jeffersonville, Indiana, builders of steamboats, barges, towboats, etc. The papers in the collection consist of account books and other financial records, letters received, letter-copybooks, blueprints, drawings, and some photographs.

This collection consists of items honoring the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It includes over 250 funeral and memorial orations. Also includes likenesses, caricatures, and memorabilia of Lincoln and his contemporaries plus newspapers of the Civil War period.

The Brown county, Ind., History mss., 1858-1889, consist of election records, school records, bids for paupers, service on roads receipts, and other items, for Johnson township, Brown County, Indiana.

The Caine mss., 1891-1931, consist of papers of Sir Hall Caine, 1853-1931, novelist and playwright. Letters are addressed in 1891 and 1892 from Caine to Miss A[delaide S.] Lauprecht of the Midland Institute, Birmingham, [England], who had written to him about translating The Scapegoat into German. Other letters are addressed to George Bowler in 1918 concerning arrangements for his will; two replies from Bowler, chartered accountant of Liverpool, examine these arrangements. A letter from H. S. B. Goldsmith to Caine in 1914 was readdressed to George Bowler and bears the dark blue wax seal of HC.

This finding aid describes the arrangement of Benjamin materials located within the Kinsey Institute Collections. It includes correspondence, Dr. Benjamin's personal papers, manuscripts, notes from lectures, conference proceedings, photographs, research files, slides, clinical objects, rare books and other printed works. Materials span the period 1891-1986.

The collection of Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935), German physician and sex researcher who is credited with founding the German homosexual rights movement. This collection contains contents from a scrapbook compiled by Carl Hoefft with an eye towards eventual publication. Materials include invitations, articles, books, pamphlets, posters, handbills, letters, questionnaires, speeches, legal documents and a horoscope. Most materials are in German.

The collection of Robert Latou Dickinson (1861-1950), sex researcher and gynecologist, is comprised of 136 archival folders (2.5 linear ft.) of manuscripts and publication drafts, clinical case files and related sexually explicit materials, professional correspondence, a few medical drawings, and an incomplete draft biography of Dickinson written by his son-in-law, George Barbour. The collection also includes organizational records, minutes, and correspondence associated with The American Association of Marriage Counselors (1944), the Institute for Sex Research (1945-1949), The National Committee on Maternal Health (1931-1949) and the World League for Sex Reform (1926). The majority of the Dickinson collection consists of case studies, sexual histories, and gynecological/sexology subject files selected from the original 5200 files (1883-1923). The bulk of the original collection is held by the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine, Harvard Medical School.

Translations mss., ca. 19th-21st centuries, consist primarily of manuscripts of literary translations, either from a foreign language into English or in some cases from English into another language. Also present are letters from authors to translators of their work or from the translators to the authors they translate.
