This collection consists of broadsheets, ephemera, "fast literature," magazines, and newspapers chiefly from the Sadleir collection.

Lockridge mss. III, circa 1837-2000, consists of the correspondence, unpublished manuscripts, photos, papers, and audio tapes pertaining to the life and work of author Ross Lockridge, Jr., 1914-1948, and the Lockridge family.

The Cookery mss., circa 1660–circa 1918, consists of bound and individual writings, often on the topic of cookery, of persons involved with cooking by practice or trade.

This is a collection of several hundred ridiculous rhymes in imitation of known authors and their works. It includes parodies of Thomas Moore, Rudyard Kipling, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Tennyson and William Shakespeare, among others.

The McFarland, Demas Lindley mss., ca. 1812-1849, consist of correspondence concerning the experiences and conduct of Demas Lindley McFarland during the War of 1812, as well as with the Jacksonian controversy over the Second Bank of the United States.

The Wensinger, Arthur S. mss., 1798-2007, consists of the papers of translator and academic Arthur S. Wensinger, 1926- .

Consists of individual items acquired separately either as a gift or purchased from a variety of sources, relating to or by French literary figures. Additions continue to be made.

The Lindenbaum, Peter mss., ca. 1590-2008, consist of the papers of Dr. Peter Lindenbaum (1938-2010), a former English Professor at Indiana University.

The collection consists of a group of 28 hornbooks. Also included are two auction catalogs for sales where some of the hornbooks were sold and a description of a hornbook in brass from dealer Patrick King's list no. 11, 1986.

The Gottfried mss. consists of Latin manuscripts and a working translation of Giovanni Della Casa's Rime by Rudolf B. Gottfried, 1909-1986, professor emeritus of English, Indiana University.

The Gill, Jemima mss., c. 1849, consist of a manuscript notebook of lace knitting patterns, with original samples stitched in.

The Allen mss., 800-1972, consists of manuscript pieces collected by William Edward David Allen, 1901-1973, foreign service officer, businessman, and author, and his own writings about Georgian history.

The Pliny mss., 9th cent.-1938, are photostats of Pliny manuscripts assembled by Selatie Edgar Stout, 1871-1969, professor of Latin and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University.

The Ricketts mss., 9th-19th cent., are illuminated medieval and renaissance manuscripts assembled by Coella Lindsay Ricketts, 1859-1941, calligrapher, of Chicago, Illinois. Most of the material relates to religious matters.

The Near Eastern mss., 700-1915, consist of a collection of individually acquired manuscripts pertaining to the region formerly known as the Near East, now referred to as the Middle East.

The History of the Written Word: Pages from the Past, 2400 BCE-1920 CE, consist of a collection of original leaves from rare books and manuscripts in limited portfolio sets.

The Miscellaneous mss., 2100 BCE-1970, consist of individual items acquired individually either as a gift or purchased from a variety of sources.

The Adomeit mss., 2000 BCE - 1995 CE, consists of miniature manuscripts collected by Ruth Elizabeth Adomeit, 1910-1996.

The Starr mss., 19th century, are holograph copies and originals of vocal and instrumental music and one letter collected by Saul Starr, 1907-1964, physician of Eastchester, New York.

The Walker, Barclay mss., 1859-1927, consists of musical compositions by Barclay Walker, 1859-1927, an Indiana composer, and by his daughter, Mary Josephine (Walker) Wolff.

The Temperance mss., 1859-1885, consists of over two hundred letters and signatures, as well as some images, relating to the Temperance Movement in Britain.

The Oropesa mss., 1859-1869, consists of charadas, riddles in verse, that Oropesa exchanged with his friends over the course of a decade.

The Cranstone Sketches mss., 1859-1860, consists of a series of 296 sketches, including 16 panoramas, in pen and ink and wash by Lefevre J. Cranstone, depicting a visit to the United States, September 1, 1859-June 1860.

The Riley mss., 1858-1944, consist of correspondence and papers of James Whitcomb Riley, 1849-1916, Indiana poet.

The Louden mss., 1858-1939, consists of the papers of John Henry Louden, 1835-1911, and his son, Theodore James Louden, 1867-1957, both of whom were lawyers in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Brown county, Ind., History mss., 1858-1889, consist of election records, school records, bids for paupers, service on roads receipts, and other items, for Johnson township, Brown County, Indiana.

The Lane, H.S. mss. II, 1858-1871, consist of letters and documents from various people to Indiana politician and U.S. Senator Henry Smith Lane, 1811-1881.

The Ellison mss. II, 1857-1940, consist of copies of articles, talks, extracts, etc. that were duplicates in the Ellison collection at the Harold B. Lee Library of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

The Remley mss., 1857-1907, are primarily Civil war letters from Ambrose Remley, 1836-1917, farmer, who served in Company E, 72nd regiment, Indiana infantry, from 1862-1865, to members of his family and friends.

The Day, S. mss., 1857-1895, consists primarily of a diary and related papers of Civil War soldier Samuel Day.

The Williams, J.S. mss., 19th cent. consist of reminiscences of John Samuel Williams, 1857-1940, Indiana schoolteacher, titled Skeletons from a Homespunner's Closet.

The Bruce mss., 1857-1873, consist of correspondence from Alexander H.B. Bruce, Executive Officer, British Army, India, and from his wife Lizzy, to Alex's sister Jane, about the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857-1858.

The Gaff mss., 1857-1872, are papers of Thomas Gaff, 1808-1884, merchant, banker, and manufacturer of Aurora, Indiana.

The Ricketts mss. III, 1856-1979, consist of the papers and correspondence of Coella Lindsay Ricketts, 1859-1941, calligrapher and illuminator, and of the work of The Scriptorium operated by Ricketts in Chicago.

The Gosport, Ind., Bank mss., 1856-1931, consist of records of the banking houses: Pettit, Montgomery and Co.; Henry & Pritchard, Bankers; The Gosport Banking Co.; The Gosport Bank; and the Olde Gosport State Bank.

The Storm mss., 1853-1958, consist of letters and articles of and pertaining to Theodor Storm, 1817-1888, author, assembled by Elmer Otto Wooley, 1883-1964, professor.

The Corbacho/Pezet mss., circa 1853-1946, consists of manuscripts, correspondence, photos and related ephemeral material covering a variety of topics, with a significant emphasis on U.S.-Peruvian relations from 1853-1929, as well as important diplomatic letters relative to the War of the Pacific (1879-1884).

The Colfax mss., 1853-1884, consists of the papers of South Bend, Indiana, newspaperman, speaker of the House of Representatives, and vice-president of the United States Schuyler Colfax, 1823-1885.

The Best mss., 1852-1862, consists of the letters of bricklayer, plasterer, California miner, and farmer A. Jackson Best, 1820-1862.

The Krout mss., 1851-1927, consist of poems and articles by Mary Hannah Krout, 1857-1927, feminist and journalist, of Crawfordsville, Indiana.

The Merrill family mss., ca. 1851-1927, consist of correspondence, diaries, photographs, and writings of various members of the George Merrill family of New York. Present are papers of George Merrill, 1832-1888, his wife Emma Fitzrandolph (Laing) Merrill, their sons William Laing Merrill and George Grenville Merrill, and George's wife Pauline (Dresser) Merrill.

The Hill mss., 1851-1914, consist mainly of letters and papers of James Nathaniel Hill, 1833-1902, farmer of Owen County, Indiana, and Civil War soldier.

The New Jerusalem Church (Illinois) mss., 1851-1903, are records of the Illinois association of the New Jerusalem Church and the New Church of Peoria, Illinois.

The Rogers mss., 1851-1878, consist of manuscripts of Joseph Goodwin Rogers, 1841-1908, Indiana physician.

The Elliott, J.B. mss., 1851-1853, are letters written by and to John Bennett Elliott, 1836-1904, student at Indiana University, 1852-1853, and later farmer and fruit grower of Harmony Township, Posey County, Indiana.

The Indiana Cotton Mills mss., 1850-1947, consists of the papers of the Indiana Cotton Mills, Inc., Cannelton, Indiana. These mills were chartered by the Indiana State Legislature in 1848 under the name Cannelton Cotton Mill. Among the incorporators were such prominent men as Salmon Portland Chase, Charles Tillinghast James, Elisha Mills Huntington, and Hamilton Smith.

The Cook mss., 1850-1877, consists of letters from David S. Cook in California to his family and friends in Illinois, and letters to James Willson Temple, 1828- , farmer, writer, from his family in Illinois while he was in California.

The Shaw, G.W. mss., 1850-1873, consists of the papers of George Washington Shaw, 1831-1912, lawyer.

The Cravens mss., 1850-1872, consists of the correspondence and papers of farmer, soldier, Indiana legislator, and U.S. congressman James Addison Cravens, 1818-1893.

The Helton mss., 1850-1872, consist of account books of Andrew Helton, miller and merchant of Bloomington, Indiana, and his son Michael W. Helton, realtor of Bloomington, Indiana, and unbound bills and receipts, 1852-1855, for groceries and other merchandise bought by Helton and Dodds, merchants of Bloomington, Indiana.

This collection consists of American song sheets without music from the mid-19th century.

The Taylor mss., 1850-1853, are typescripts of personal letters from Anna Tuthill (Harrison) Taylor, 1813-1865, youngest daughter of President William Henry Harrison.

The Dobell mss., 1849-1947, consists of personal letters written by Sydney Thompson Dobell, 1824-1874, poet, to friends, and a few by friends about Dobell.

The Crawford mss., 1849-1864, consists of letters and papers of captain, Quartermaster's department, United States volunteers, and member of the Oregon legislature Medorem Crawford, 1819-1891.

The Bryan mss., 1849-1863, are chiefly the letters of George Washington Bryan, 1825-1893, physician, exchanged with his wife, Alice (Calhoun) Bryan, during his period of service in 1862-63 with the Union forces along the Mississippi River on the steamers Glasgow, the Tigress, the P. J. Pringle, and at Young's Point, Louisiana.

The Burnham mss., 1848-1977, consist of the papers of Indiana University administrator, Walter Erastus Burnham, 1905-1980, and of his parents, grandparents and other family members.

The Whitehouse, F. mss, 1848-1938, consist of architectural renderings, photographs, scratch board sketches, and pen & ink sketches of works produced by noted Chicago architect, Francis M. Whitehouse.

The Wordsworth mss. II, 1848-1909, consist of letters and papers of the family of William Wordsworth, 1770-1850, and their friends. They are concerned chiefly with family matters, financial accounts, and the welfare of Dora Wordsworth, 1858-1934, his granddaughter, after the death of her mother.

The Harris mss., 1848-1851, consists of letters to Jonathan Newton Harris, 1815-1896, merchant and banker.

The Drake mss., 1848-1849, consists of the letters of physician Daniel Drake, 1785-1852, to his children, copied by U.S. senator Charles Daniel Drake, 1811-1892.

The Signers of the Declaration of Independence mss., 1848, consists of materials pertaining to the members of the Continental Congress who drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence.

The Wallace mss. II, 1847-1938, consists of the literary papers of Lew Wallace, 1827-1905, lawyer, soldier, diplomat, and author.

The Janney mss., 1847-1900, consists of the papers of John Jay Janney, 1812-1907, a member of the Society of Friends, educator, Ohio politician, and railroad official.

The Batterton, Davies mss., 1847-1848, consists of materials related to Indiana University alumnus Davies Batterton, 1823-1860.

The Appleton-Century mss., 1846-1962, consists of the office files of the publishing company, its two predecessors, D. Appleton & Co., and the Century Co., and to a small extent its successor, Appleton-Century Crofts, Inc.

The Johnson, W. S. mss., 1846-1894, consists of letters to printer William Spencer Johnson, 1813-1897, from actors, actresses, artists, musicians, editors, authors, journalists, and statesmen. Included are also some photographs of actors and actresses.

The Whitman mss., 1846-1878, consist of correspondence of Mrs. Sarah Helen (Power) Whitman, 1803-1878.

The Browning mss., ca. 1846-1878, consist primarily of letters from poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 1806-1861, and Robert Browning, 1812-1889, to Sarianna Browning, 1814-1903, Robert Browning's sister.

The Leavitt mss., 1846-1849, consist of six letters from George C. Leavitt, 1824-1854, teacher and surveyor, to his parents in New Hampshire, and one letter from his wife Elizabeth to his parents.

The Magee mss., 1845-1929, consists of the papers of Rufus Magee, 1845-1929, lawyer, Indiana state senator, and diplomat.

The Dixon mss., 1845-1876, consists of letters to William Hepworth Dixon, 1821-1879, historian, traveler, and editor of the Athenaeum from January 1853 to August 1869.

The Harding mss., 1843-1930, consists of the papers of Stephen Selwyn Harding, 1808-1891, lawyer, governor of Utah Territory, and chief justice of Colorado Territory.

The Champney sketches mss. consists of drawings of the post-Civil War South by painter and illustrator James Wells Champney, 1843-1903, made for articles written by Edward Smith King, 1848-1896, author and journalist.

The Bement mss., 1843-1891, consists of the correspondence of Isaac Bush, 1815-1864, farmer of LaPorte County, Indiana, and his wife, Sarah Ann (Bement) Bush, 1821-1891.

The Blair mss., 1843-1881, consists of letters and papers of Montgomery Blair, 1813-1883, lawyer and postmaster general in the cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1865.
