This collection of interviews focuses on the political career of John E. Hurt. The bulk of the collection consists of Mr. Hurt's interviews where he speaks about his role as a leading Democratic fundraiser and political advisor to several gubernatorial candidates and governors in Indiana from the late nineteen forties through the early nineteen sixties. The other interviews offer background and specifics about Hurt's political career and actions.

This collection of interviews offers some insight into Dr. Martin Luther King's character and strength as a leader. It also provides some information about the role of adult education in the Civil Rights Movement and how that facilitated social change.

The interviews contained in this project revolve around the life of Melvyn Douglas and include information about his biographical history, his family, his theatrical, motion picture, and television acting career, and his efforts during World War II. The interviewees include fellow actors and actresses, the man himself, former employees, and others who came into contact with Melvyn Douglas throughout his life.

Malcolm A. Hoffman discusses his relationship with Morris L. Ernst, best known for his defense in the censorship case against Ulysses by James Joyce.

Charles Taft discusses politics in Cincinnati during the late 1920s. He talks about his brother, Robert A. Taft, and his political career.

The central focus of this project is the life of William Fortune, who lived from 1863 to 1942. Interviewees are the daughters of Indiana businessman William Fortune, a friend and father-in-law of Eli Lilly. They tell about their life in Indianapolis at the turn of the century and offer recollections of associations with famous people like the Lillys and James Whitcomb Riley.

The collection consists of papers generated and received by the office of Senator Birch Bayh during his three terms (1963-1980) in the United States Senate representing the state of Indiana, including extensive papers from his legislative work, his chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments, his other Judiciary Committee work, his Senate and Presidential campaigns, and his extensive involvement in economic development in Indiana.

The Committee on Appropriations files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the Committee on Appropriations and its subcommittees.

Contains files documenting Bayh's work as a member of the Committee on Public Works and chairman of its Special Subcommittee on Disaster Relief (Dec 1969 - Jan 1970) and its Subcommittee on Roads (1971-1972).

The Committee on the Judiciary files consist of all administrative and staff files generated in connection with Bayh's service on the committee and its various subcommittees, with the exception of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments (1963-1976), later Subcommittee on the Constitution (1977-1980), and the Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, which are covered in separate series.

The Indiana Working Files were created by the staff members assigned to Indiana projects and concerns, most of them working in the Washington, DC office but some from the Indianapolis office as well. They contain working papers, correspondence, resources, and sometimes materials related to legislation.

The Legislative Working Files consist of staff members' files containing research materials, memos, correspondence, and often constituent mail and responses.

Scrapbooks covering Bayh's legislative career 1957-1980 and his wife Marvella's advocacy for cancer prevention 1973-1974.

The Speech and Writings series includes drafts, working notes, and supplementary materials collected to support speech-writing, and drafts of books and articles and correspondence related to them.

Documents generated by Bayh and his staff in connection with the work of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments and Subcommittee on the Constitution under his chairmanship.

The Bissonette mss., 1855-1862, consists of letters and documents of trader and frontiersman Joseph Bisonette, 1814-1894.

The Bissonette mss., 1855-1862, consist of letters and documents primarily of Joseph Bissonette, trader and frontiersman, from Nebraska Territory, relating to claims for losses incurred from depredations committed by the Indians.

The Black mss., 1989-1995, consists of letters from author Emily Hahn, 1905-1997, to independent researcher Virginia M. Black of Berkeley, California.

Production materials documenting Smithsonian's thirteen-part program on the role of radio in transforming the African American community in the twentieth century. The program was produced in 1996 by Jacquie Gales Webb for Smithsonian Productions, with assistance from the AAAMC. The collection contains over 400 hours of interviews and historical aircheck tapes in addition to articles, research files, program scripts, and transcripts. The audio interviews feature conversations with over 150 well-known disc jockeys, radio professionals, record company executives, journalists, and scholars. The historical airchecks include station identifications and jingles, radio interviews with prominent Black figures, coverage of historical events, and programs highlighting or influenced by the contributions of Black performers, disc jockeys, and other important persons in radio.

In this project, the interviewee speaks about blacksmithing, welding, and the production of bells.

The Blackwood mss., 1852-1887, consists of letters to Sir Stevenson Arthur Blackwood, 1832-1893, postal official and reformer, and to his mother, Cecilia Georgiana Byng Blackwood, 1802-1881.

The Blair, E. mss., 1935-1945, consists of letters of novelist Eric Arthur Blair, 1903-1950, better known by the pseudonym "George Orwell," to his literary agent, Leonard Parker Moore, 1876-1959.

The Blair, M.A.I. mss., 1684-1897, consists of letters and documents collected by art collector and benefactor Mary Anne Italia Mitchell Blair, 1855-1940.

The Blair mss., 1843-1881, consists of letters and papers of Montgomery Blair, 1813-1883, lawyer and postmaster general in the cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1865.

The Blake mss., 1819-1958, consists of letters and documents relating to the Holman family of Aurora, IN.

The Blam mss., 1944-1992, consists of the notebook and interview transcripts kept by court reporter George Blam, 1917-1996, during the 1944 investigation into the World War II activities of author Ernest Hemingway, 1899-1961.

The Blanche M. Hunckler Papers contain documents and other items collected by Blanche Hunckler that pertain to Indiana Senator Richard G. Lugar. In particular, the collection consists of materials related to Blanche and Paul Hunckler's work on Senator Lugar's 1982 and 1988 re-election campaigns, as well as additional correspondence between the Huncklers, Senator Lugar, and members of his staff.

The Blish mss., 1966-1972, consists of letters from science fiction and fantasy writer James Benjamin Blish, 1921-1975, to editors at Doubleday and Company in New York.

The Böll mss., 1955-1956, consists primarily of letters and cards from German author and Nobel Prize winner, Heinrich Böll, 1917-1985, to his American agent, Joan Daves, 1919-1997.

This collection consists of gospel song books and sheet music, song texts, photographs, and other ephemeral material related to Blondell Hill's participation with choirs in Richmond, Indiana, Petoskey, Michigan, and Harbor Springs, Michigan.

The Bloomington Area Arts Council mss., 1985–2007, consists of organizational documents of the Bloomington Area Arts Council (BAAC).

The origins of the Bloomington Faculty Council can be traced back to a University reorganization begun by university president Elvis J. Stahr. In 1969 the Bloomington Faculty began their own council for policy and academic decisions, as the University Faculty Council became a legislative body for all faculty in the Indiana University system. This collection consists of the agendas, minutes, circulars and supporting documents of the Bloomington Faculty Council, the governing body of the university faculty on the Indiana University -Bloomington campus. The collection is organized into six series: Agendas, Minutes, Circulars, Supporting documents, Committee Files, and Subject Files.

The Bloomington Garden Club mss., 1938-2016, consists of the papers, minutes of meetings, scrapbooks, and photograph albums relating to the activities of the Bloomington Garden Club, especially the annual Garden Walk.

The Bloomington Gay Alliance was an umbrella organization that coordinated many smaller activist and social groups of the Bloomington LGBTQ+ community during the 1970s and 80s. This collection consists of ten newsletters the group published.
